inDEPENDENCE

Tuesday, Febuary 26
7:00pm – 9:00pm
Cooperman JCC, West Orange
Free!
Ages 13 to Adult

This solo show by Jamie M. Fox is the story of a neurotic Jewish woman stuck in a dead-end job as a celebrity’s assistant, her cocaine addicted and recently incarcerated brother, and the two neurotic parents who spawned them. But it’s a comedy, a comedy with an important message about how substance abuse can affect a family. Join us for the show and a Q & A period afterward.

The Jewish Americans

January 7, 2008

Starting this Wednesday, and for the next three weeks, PBS will air a miniseries called “The Jewish Americans.”  This six hour miniseries will give an overview of the history of Jewish life in America for the past 353 years.  I think this would make for great family viewing.  So grab your parents, or grab you kids, and have a seat in front of the TV for a few nights of Jewish learning.

In the New York/New Jersey area, the show will air on channel 13 at 9:00PM on Wednesdays, January 9, 16 and 23, 2008.

Middle School Parent-Child Trip to Israel: June 14-21, 2007

April 25, 2007

Though time is short, I am writing to tell you about a unique and exciting program, the Neve Shalom “Encounters,” a program sponsored by United Jewish Communities-Metrowest NJ, its educational partners in Shaar Ha-Negev, Israel and the Palestinian Center for Alternative Solutions, run by Nedal Jayousi. These Encounters have been extremely successful in engaging Israeli and Palestinian high school students around four democratic principles: pluralism and tolerance; equality; rule of law; and civic engagement. This will be the first middle school “Encounter,” bringing together four Israeli middle school students and their parents, four Palestinian middle school students and their parents, and four US middle school students and their parents.

For more information, please contact Carol Barash (973-568-8210), Jed Barash (201-463-5689) or Amy Cantor at UJC MetroWest 973-929-3008; acantor@ujcnj.org) for more information.
